DESTINATION OVERVIEW
About South Africa
“South Africa is the most beautiful place on earth. Admittedly, I am biased but when you combine the natural beauty… and the fact that the region is a haven for Africa’s most splendid wildlife… Then I think that we have been blessed with a truly wonderful land”
Nelson Mandela
South Africa is often described as a Rainbow Nation, the phrase used by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela. It reflects on the many beautiful skin colours and cultures one would find when travelling through South Africa. Not just in our people you will find a rainbow, also in our landscape. Our soil is the most gorgeous deep red colour, our sunset the most beautiful hues of orange and pink, the fruit on the trees is yellow, our rolling hills any shade of green, blue is the colour of our two oceans, our birds are the most amazing colour of indigo blue and our Jacaranda trees make our cities covered in violet petals everywhere you look. There is indeed no place like it on earth.
Some questions you might have, before planning your next amazing South African trip.
What is the best time to visit South Africa?
South Africa really has it all. Honestly, there isn’t a time when one should not travel to our country. Between November and February, it is summer in the Cape region and the days are warm and dry and the evenings and night have a gentle cool breeze. You will smell jasmin bushes everywhere you go, you can lay on the beach as much as you like or climb our beloved Table Mountain. Are you a fan of windsurfing, not to worry, on our Northern coast line just outside of Cape Town, that gentle breeze develops into the best winds for any type of water sports. The best time for whale watching on our Southern shores is between July and November, while dolphins can be seen throughout the year.
The Northern regions of our country experience a distinct wet and dry season. The wet season is in the summer months, from October to April, the dry season from May to September. A not so well-kept secret is that game drives are best done in winter! Less dense vegetation in the bush, makes it easier to spot the wildlife.
Our Eastern shores have hot, humid summers and dry, mild winters. The province of KwaZulu-Natal offers warmth and sunshine most of the year.
Do I need a visa for the destination I am travelling to?
