DESTINATION OVERVIEW
About Botswana
Botswana is most likely on every nature and wildlife lover’s bucket list. One of the best African safari destinations, Botswana’s government maintains a high-quality low-impact tourism model. So fewer people can enjoy more nature. One of the many reasons we love this destination too, is because concessions are only rewarded to safari tour operators who uplift and involve local communities and help protect Botswana’s natural treasures. Sustainable tourism at its best!
Botswana
One of the most special and serene parts of the country is where the floods of ‘ the river that never finds the sea’ form the Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta is situated deep within the Kalahari Basin. There are extensive waterways, floodplains, swamps and flooded grassland. The Okavango Delta is home to some of the world’s most endangered species of large mammal, like the white and black rhino, African wild dog, the cheetah and lions. You can explore the Okavango Delta by mokoro or motorised boat, on foot or on a game drive. Each a unique and magnificent once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Chobe National Park
Undoubtedly one of Africa’s most beautiful rivers, the Chobe supports a diverse and high concentration of wildlife, more so than anywhere else in the country. In Chobe National Park you will find Africa’s largest concentration of elephant. There are floodplains, swamps and woodland. The Chobe River forms its northern boundary. Chobe Riverfront is most famous for its large herds of elephants and Cape buffalo. Over 460 bird species have been recorded in the park, making it one of Africa’s premier venues for bird safaris. A truly magical place, where one will be left without words to describe the smells and sounds of the bush, the sunsets and starry night skies.
The Makgadikgadi
This natural wonder has to be seen, to be believed. Part of the Kalahari Basin, it is one of the largest salt pans in the world. A mostly completely empty space, quiet, desolate and waterless vast white land, that from one year to the next will flood completely, attracting zebra and wildebeest and many, sometimes hundreds of thousands of flamingos, that turn the area pink. Research suggests that the Makgadikgadi is a relic of what was once one of the biggest inland lakes Africa has ever had and this is clearly seen when the pans turn into a blue lake after the seasonal floods.
