Nestled between dunes, coastal forest and coconut palms on a deserted stretch of the southern Mozambique coast lies the Travessia Eco Lodge. Escape for 5 nights to this slice of paradise where you can enjoy swimming in warm safe waters, relaxing on the beach and gentle bush walks through the scenic coastal dunes. Delight in taking a sunset cruise along the coast while sipping refreshing cocktails. This is the joy of life at the beach…
Upon arrival at Inhambane Airport you will be met by someone from the lodge and driven two hours through the verdant palm-fringed landscape to Travessia Lodge. The lodge is built among the dunes along the beach, nestled between bush and palm trees and with carefully chosen spots to maximize privacy and sea views. The buildings are constructed in conjunction with the local community. The lodge is entirely solar powered – ensuring a light environmental footprint.
Walk our endless beach which you only have to share with a handful of local fishermen and occasionally the kids of the neighbouring villages. We happily provide you with a beach picnic. Find the enormous Baobab hidden in the sea of palm trees surrounding our terrain. Pay a visit to our neighbours for the Sunday soccer match or just to say hello and possibly score an invite to their small but creatively decorated and furnished houses, most of them made of woven palm fronds.
Mozambique sports world class dive sites, with whale sharks, manta rays or dolphins being a common sight off our shores. We gladly organise your snorkelling or diving trip or ocean experience with one of Inhambane’s established dive centres. If you prefer to explore the ocean directly from our beach, there are body boards for kids and adults, an inflatable K2 and a two seater canoe to paddle out and brave the beach break.
Spend some time getting to know the local community. Travessia has been involved in community development programs from the first days of construction. Community up-liftment and focus on caring for the environment are important. The set-up is therefore based on energy-saving equipment, which also means, that you won’t find air conditioning or flat screen TVs. There is mostly a light breeze in the evening and our buildings are constructed to allow natural ventilation, and as for the TV entertainment: We are sure you won’t miss it.
Join us on one of our weekly shopping trips to Maxixe and browse the maze of the local market. You are unlikely to meet another tourist here. If you are interested in the broader neighbourhood, we also gladly take you on a tour through the communities and introduce you to some of the projects we are involved in.
This is the last morning of your eco-friendly beach escape in southern Mozambique. After a hearty breakfast you will be driven back to Inhambane airport for your onward travel arrangements.
