Day 5
This is a chic and intimate beach hotel, in the seaside town of Hermanus. With its exhilarating cliff-top position overlooking the whale watching paradise of Walker Bay, it provides luxury accommodation in a tranquil beachside setting, perfect for honeymooners. For several months each year, witness Southern Right and Humpback Whales breaching just metres from the shore. The hotel’s contemporary décor is an artful mix of beach-house and quirky opulence.
Hermanus offers many ocean and beach activities, like whale watching and Marine Big 5 viewing, shark cage diving, surfing and horse riding on the beach. The nearby Hemel en Aarde Valley offers plenty of hiking and mountain bike trails and fine dining restaurants at some of the best wine estates.
Day 6, 7 & 8
Few other reserves offer as much outdoor beauty and all-round experience between Cape Town and the Garden Route, as De Hoop Nature Reserve. Here you can find sea, sand dunes, the vlei, an amazing floral sensation of rare fynbos plants, diverse antelope and the Potberg Mountains. Birders observe wading birds on the shores of the vlei while the Potberg Mountains are home to a colony of endangered Cape vultures. Hikers and cyclists have close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape Mountain zebra, eland, baboons and ostrich. Many activities for you to choose from, but you can also relax on the beach together or go snorkelling in the many turquoise rock pools.
The secluded Honeymoon Suite at Morukuru Collection offers generous views of the rich fynbos and dune surrounds, with partial views of the sparkling Indian Ocean below. The large private deck, with outdoor bathtub and sun loungers, is perfect for the ultimate romantic oceanside escape. Very private indeed as the occupancy is limited to a maximum of two guests.
Day 9, 10 & 11
When better to experience the magic and enchantment of a treetop lodge, than on your honeymoon. This treetop lodge is amidst the treetops of an age-old indigenous forest. Staying in your own private elevated hideaway is romantic and adventurous. The rooms are tucked into the forest canopy, each with a private deck and your own infinity pool providing the ultimate privacy and a scene set for romance.
The location is perfect too, close to Plettenberg Bay, in the heart of the Garden Route. It is the ideal location from where to roam free. Plan nothing and see where you end up. Surrounded by nature reserves, Plettenberg Bay is a paradise for nature-lovers. Whale, dolphin and bird watching, walking trails, kayaking, cycling and spectacular golf courses. Flanked on three sides by the magnificent Tsitsikamma forest (‘place of clear or abundant water’ in the ancient Khoi language), mountains to the north and the Indian Ocean to the east, Plettenberg Bay is surrounded by lush indigenous forests. Many restaurants and shops, great small towns to visit in the surrounding areas, the Garden Route has it all.
Day 12, 13, 14 & 15
In the malaria-free Eastern Cape of South Africa, lies one of the best rated safari camps. This intimate family-run lodge, set on the banks of the Bushman’s River with a breath-taking vista of rolling African plains, offers a fantastic safari experience, where privacy and personalised attention make your stay even more wonderful. A safari experience will be the perfect ending to this ultimate romantic honeymoon.
Day and night game viewing trips under guidance of professional game rangers will make this stay even more special. Wildlife that you can see in the reserve are the Big Five (lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard) as well as cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and plenty of antelope species.
