From the respectful Venda of the far North to the Cape coloured communities of the South West, from  the colourful people of Swaziland to the proud Zulu nation, you will have an opportunity to interact with all of them, and see how they live, work and play.

 

After your arrival at OR Tambo International Airport you will be met by a local representative for a meet & greet and depart to your Fairtrade in Tourism certified guest house in Johannesburg. This old city is a multi-cultural mixture of traditional medicine shops, Chinese restaurants, taxi ranks and ultra modern skyscrapers. There are excellent museums, art galleries and organised tours of historical and political interest.

After breakfast its time to leave the city life behind and drive to Dinokeng Game Reserve. The reserve is the first free-roaming Big 5 residential game reserve in Gauteng and offers unique self drive experiences. After checking in you will get to experience a drive through a rich diversity of bushveld giving you the opportunity to see wild animals in a natural environment.

Today you will go to the Soutpansberg area, the name means ‘Salt Pan Mountain’ and is South Africa’s most northern mountain range. The mountain range stretches from east to west covering over 130 kilometers of unspoiled wilderness. You will be staying with a local family in a remote Venda Village in the Limpopo province. For the next 2 days you will get to know more about Venda traditions and culture and take part in activities with the locals enjoying their traditional foods. On arrival your guide will take you on a tour exploring the village route in a colourful traditional walk around the village. Here you will meet the locals, explore the sacred valleys and lakes, and discover the ancient historical rock art of this beautiful area.

Your next stop will be the Kruger National Park. The park is one of the world’s largest game reserves with an impressive variety of animals, plant life and birdlife and. During your stay you will get the opportunity to spot the Big 5 during a full day of game viewing in an open game viewing vehicle as well as bush walks.

Today you are heading to the Lowveld area which is renowned for it subtropical climate, abundant wildlife, and ancient history. This area encompasses a number of spectacular game reserves vast farmlands, and the popular Panorama Route. On you way to Swaziland you will drive through the historical Panorama Route a scenic road in the Mpumalanga Province that features spectacular views of breathtaking natural wonders, fascinating rock formations, impressive waterfalls, scenic hiking trails, and a myriad of fauna and flora. The highlight includes the Blyde River Canyon which is one of the world’s largest green canyons featuring lush subtropical vegetation. Some other popular natural attractions along the route include: the spectacular Lisbon, Berlin, and Mac Mac Falls, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Three Rondavels and the astonishing God’s Window.

Another fascinating culture on this cultural discovery in Swaziland. This beautiful province boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage, with towering mountains and low-lying savannah, tangled rain forests and lush river valleys. For the next 2 days you will get the opportunity to experience the traditional Swazi lifestyle and its colorful people, get dazzled by the gorgeous sunsets, take in spectacular nature walks and mountain bike trips around the plateau.

St Lucia which is a World Heritage site lies on the St Lucia estuary, and is a haven of tranquility that only unspoilt nature can provide. Entirely surrounded by the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park, the residents of little village are protective of their beautiful environment. On arrival you will go for a boat cruise around the lower reaches of the lake where you can view water birds, crocodiles and hippos wallowing in the shallows.

After your Zulu lesson in St Lucia you will go to your next stop in Umhlanga. Known for its beautiful beaches, lively wining and dining scene, and rich cultural heritage, Located in Durban which is South Africa’s third largest city..You can look forward to strolling along the beachfront promenade and exploring the many Asian/Indian markets. On your 2 day in Umhlanga you will enjoy a fascinating day with  locals in an authentic Zulu village where you will practice your Zulu and discover the fascinating history,  culture and traditions of the Zulu nation in the Valley of thousand hills.

Today you will be flying to Cape Town. Known as the Mother city, this city boast rich culture, vibrant nightlife, a cosmopolitan atmosphere and extraordinary architecture. The next day you will experience the vibrant community of Khayelitsha. Khayelitsha meaning ‘Our new home’ in Xhosa and is an informal township in Cape Town. Here you will meet your guide and go for a cultural walking and cycling tour meeting the people, enjoy some tastings, visit projects and Lookout Hill. The next day you will go for the Cape Peninsula tour which offers a spectacular combination of beaches and mountains, with wonderfully well preserved areas interspersed with quaint towns and harbours.

Located just 50 kilometres outside of Cape Town in Die Swartland, which is known for its scenic beauty featuring majestic mountains, pristine beaches and wheat, olive, rooibos and vineyard covered farmlands. The area is named for its rich fertile soil which turns black after the rains in winter, ‘Die Swartland’ means the ‘black land’ in Afrikaans. On your way there you can enjoy some wine tasting in the Swartland Wine Route and visit the quaint historic towns dotting the region. You will end this very special itinerary with an authentic Homestay Experience at the Moravian Mission Station Goedverwacht near Piketberg experiencing their way of life in this tiny village. The Moravian mission station of Goedverwacht a  is nestled between the Piketberg Mountains. After meeting the family you will visit the church, the mill museum , the school and the slave graves.

Time to say your goodbyes to your Goedverwacht and community members before making your way to join the San Bushmen on an educational walk in Yzerfontein. The San Guided Tour Experience is a fascinating insight into the culture, heritage, knowledge, skills and contemporary life of the San. You will be able to see fresh animal tracks, explore a replica San village and get to know the herbaceous fynbos of the area and its many uses.  You can explore !Khwa ttu San on foot, safari vehicle or mountain bike. After lunch you will drive to Cape Town for your flight out.
